Golden Years

Description
The idea for this personal piece was completely accidental. I like the way it came out though.

The second installment of my 3 part 2001: A Space Odyssey series. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie, the dismantling of HAL 9000 after killing the crew. I fabricated everything you see, the face was created in Poser 7 while the helmet and HAL were created with the pen tool and gradients.Photo Manipulation, Illustration2012 -
After many thoughts and considerations, I decided to re-do one of my old pieces in honor of my best friend who passed away in 2004. This one holds a very special meaning to me, as the original won me a digital art competition at CSUMB (California State University of Monterey Bay) in 2005. My skills have greatly improved over the course of 7 years, and I can finally give it justice visually, the way it was meant to be seen. It also marks my first digital creation of 2012. You will forever be in our hearts Toto, I love you and miss you everyday.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art, Photo Illustration2012 -
My last creation of 2011! This was actually a rejected album cover for the band Dissipate (Based out of Livermore, CA). I ended up redoing the whole thing and decided to use this as a personal piece.Photo Manipulation2011 -
This is my first part of a three part series that I will complete in the future. I'm a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick's film take on the 2001: A Space Odyssey novel. This is the very famous monolith scene. I had a hard time focusing on the tiny details of this piece, I tried not to rush myself too much :)Photo Manipulation, Digital Art2011 -
Wanted to do a small tribute to my favorite sci fi/horror film Alien. This is my take on the famous airlock scene at the end of the movie.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art2011 -
Visually, I wanted to create a jack-o-lantern effect with the skull. Instead of the skull burning up and around itself, I wanted it to burn from the inside out. It took a lot of experimenting to emulate the glowing ember effect but I'm very pleased of the way it turned out.Digital Art, Digital Photography, Photo Manipulation2011 -
Another Mastodon inspired artwork. This time I wanted a more traditional art feel opposed to just digital. I laid out the woman and skulls with Photoshop than drew it down on paper, inked it out and scanned, adding a bit of flare to the original. I wanted the colors to be psychedelic, spent some time on getting it right.Digital Art, Photo Manipulation, Illustration2011 -
Another one of those pieces that came to me randomly. Finished watching a movie and grabbed my sketch pad and drew up (vaguely) what you see below. Part of the fun was coming up with ideas as I was working on it, the selection of stock had a lot to do with that as well.Photo Manipulation, Digital Photography, Digital Art2011 -
Lately, I've been in love with gray tones with red accents, I just think the contrast between these two colors are amazing. This idea came to me rather quickly. Two widows, one a spider (black widow) and the other a woman, weeping together. I've been wanting to use webs for the longest time and had my chance with this one. I love the overall Gothic feel of the image, as well as the high contrast lighting on the statues face.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art, Digital Photography2011 -
Going back to my roots with this one. I used quite a bit of textures, some homemade and others from stock. I wanted to create a dark and foggy atmosphere, I believe I achieved this.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art, Digital Photography2011 -
This piece went through many different renditions, finally settling on this idea. Found an awesome picture of the Trevi Fountain in Italy and atmosphere and lighting just fell into place in my head. The idea of the title came to me after listening to Metallica's "Black Album." No matter how powerful or indestructible you may seem, it all means nothing in the grand scheme of things, particularly in nature and natural disasters.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art, Digital Imaging2011 -
Something different than my usual stuff. I hand drew the pattern, scanned and edited with Photoshop. I was heavily influenced by the band "Mastodon" while thinking it up. I'm a big fan of their music as well as their artwork.Photo Manipulation, Digital Photography, Photo Illustration2011 -
"Moon Tears" is a collection of ideas I had for a while that I mixed and matched resulting in the final piece.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art, Digital Photography2011 -
Personal piece depicting the end of days, in a classy way mind you. Took me around 8 hours off and on due to my day job and life in general. I'm proud of the way it came out.Photo Manipulation, Digital Art, Digital Photography2011
