The more I use Poser, the more I discover what a great tool it really is when used correctly. I don't like the over digitized look so I rendered the female figure with 3 light exposures, then layered them on top of each other, adding more realism. I also added real hair from my personal stock images along with the metal ornament, taken with my iPhone none the less! The lighting was probably the most fun, it really brought the piece to life in the end.

  • The Final Cut
I wanted to do something clean and stylistic as well as being detailed. This image came to me very randomly (as most do). I took a picture of the angled razor and used Poser 7 to render the hand, so the angle would line up perfectly. It was pretty crucial, it also saved a lot of time trying to match the razor with an actual photograph of a hand.

  • Woman of Virtue
I wanted to try something different from my usual clean artwork, this whole piece came together randomly. Using this woman's image as a base, I constructed multiple textures around her. I wanted something abstract and to have painting like feel. I enjoyed creating this because there was no preconceived idea, just what I thought of in the very moment of it's creation.

  • Odyssey Part 2: HAL 9000
The second installment of my 3 part 2001: A Space Odyssey series. This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie, the dismantling of HAL 9000 after killing the crew. I fabricated everything you see, the face was created in Poser 7 while the helmet and HAL were created with the pen tool and gradients.

  • Entering Oblivion (Reprise)
After many thoughts and considerations, I decided to re-do one of my old pieces in honor of my best friend who passed away in 2004. This one holds a very special meaning to me, as the original won me a digital art competition at CSUMB (California State University of Monterey Bay) in 2005. My skills have greatly improved over the course of 7 years, and I can finally give it justice visually, the way it was meant to be seen. It also marks my first digital creation of 2012. You will forever be in our hearts Toto, I love you and miss you everyday.

  • This Is The Life
My last creation of 2011! This was actually a rejected album cover for the band Dissipate (Based out of Livermore, CA). I ended up redoing the whole thing and decided to use this as a personal piece.

  • Odyssey Part 1: Arrival
This is my first part of a three part series that I will complete in the future. I'm a huge fan of Stanley Kubrick's film take on the 2001: A Space Odyssey novel. This is the very famous monolith scene. I had a hard time focusing on the tiny details of this piece, I tried not to rush myself too much :)

  • Exit: Alien
Wanted to do a small tribute to my favorite sci fi/horror film Alien. This is my take on the famous airlock scene at the end of the movie.

  • Death's Head
Visually, I wanted to create a jack-o-lantern effect with the skull. Instead of the skull burning up and around itself, I wanted it to burn from the inside out. It took a lot of experimenting to emulate the glowing ember effect but I'm very pleased of the way it turned out.

  • Soul Searcher
Another Mastodon inspired artwork. This time I wanted a more traditional art feel opposed to just digital. I laid out the woman and skulls with Photoshop than drew it down on paper, inked it out and scanned, adding a bit of flare to the original. I wanted the colors to be psychedelic, spent some time on getting it right.

  • Valley of Masks
Another one of those pieces that came to me randomly. Finished watching a movie and grabbed my sketch pad and drew up (vaguely) what you see below. Part of the fun was coming up with ideas as I was working on it, the selection of stock had a lot to do with that as well.

  • Two Widows
Lately, I've been in love with gray tones with red accents, I just think the contrast between these two colors are amazing. This idea came to me rather quickly. Two widows, one a spider (black widow) and the other a woman, weeping together. I've been wanting to use webs for the longest time and had my chance with this one. I love the overall Gothic feel of the image, as well as the high contrast lighting on the statues face.

  • Never More
Going back to my roots with this one. I used quite a bit of textures, some homemade and others from stock. I wanted to create a dark and foggy atmosphere, I believe I achieved this.

  • The God That Failed
This piece went through many different renditions, finally settling on this idea. Found an awesome picture of the Trevi Fountain in Italy and atmosphere and lighting just fell into place in my head. The idea of the title came to me after listening to Metallica's "Black Album." No matter how powerful or indestructible you may seem, it all means nothing in the grand scheme of things, particularly in nature and natural disasters.

  • Mirrored Gemini
Something different than my usual stuff. I hand drew the pattern, scanned and edited with Photoshop. I was heavily influenced by the band "Mastodon" while thinking it up. I'm a big fan of their music as well as their artwork.

"Moon Tears" is a collection of ideas I had for a while that I mixed and matched resulting in the final piece.

  • Doomsday Angel
Personal piece depicting the end of days, in a classy way mind you. Took me around 8 hours off and on due to my day job and life in general. I'm proud of the way it came out.

The idea for this personal piece was completely accidental. I like the way it came out though.
